Max dimension on surface created by spline.

I am trying to create "bounding box" dimensions for a part that has an odd shape defined by some splines.
I know you can create "max" dimensions for circular arcs, but I can't find a way to do that with a curved, non-circular surface (made from splines). Currently, I'm having to add construction lines to a sketch, add the sketch to the drawing, then dimension the sketch. Is there a better way?

@pete_yodis Is there any update on the ticket for this? I'm stuck trying to dimension a spline in a drawing.
