Unable to extrude a surface

I am following the tutorial “How to Build a Nut“ https://www.onshape.com/cad-blog/tech-tip-how-to-build-a-nut.
When it comes to create the thread, it says that I have to create a surface slightly larger than the corpse.
But in my case, I am not able to create the surface, because I cannot select any curve within my part.

What am I missing? Any help is appreciate!
