Why are my mate connectors doing this?

I've attached pictures of all 4 positions when I try to re-orient it and the solve button doesn't appear to do anything.

    It's already solved so pressing the button won't do anything. Accept the mate, then expand the mate in the instance list and edit one of the mate connectors - you'll be able to tweak the angle value there.  Alternatively, use a mate connector on one of the "ribs".
