Curriculum Idea: Students will research and model simple mechanisms or mechanical movements

Topic area: Mechanisms, Mechanical Linkages

Description:  Assign students to research mechanisms that change motion from one type to another or are used to transmit power. They can research the application of these mechanisms and what devices they are used in. Then students can model a mechanism in Onshape. These models can be 3D printed to be kept as a display or for students to keep.

Learning Objectives: After completing this project, students should be able to:

  1. Use Mates such as Revolute, and Slider in Onshape

  2. See how the mechanisms can be changed to affect desired output

  3. Develop designs for manufacturing (3D printing)

@Domenico_D this is really cool and the format is fantastic.

I did a search in this forum for "lesson idea" and it returned a mess. Do you have a website that indexes these lessons?
