Is there a way to get an outside shell?

I'd like to get a shell outside of this shape to become the slot around it. I tried a negative value on Shell but it errors. Is there an easy way without recreating the shape but slightly bigger?

    There is a direction arrow in the shell dialog - try that.

    Didn't realize it did that. Thought it was for selecting things.
