Making drawing of composite part?

phil_erdley628phil_erdley628 Member Posts: 16 PRO
Received an OBJ file from a customer. They would like me to recreate the part, but I cannot dimension the parts in their current state.
Made a composite part of the entire product, and cannot make a drawing, or insert the part into an assembly to do so either.

How can I work around this to get dimensions from the original file?

OBJ files import as a MESH

so you can't do much with it in Onshape except use it as a reference when drawing other parts.

You can use FreeCAD or something to convert the mesh to a solid, but I've never had good luck with that

Ask them the give you another format such as Parasold, Step, Sat
or re-draw it using the mesh as a reference
