Elongating a sketch?

chase_maytonchase_mayton Member Posts: 2 EDU
How would I go about elongating a sketch? I have a hexagon that I want to extend the sides of, but not the top and bottom. If I try changing the length of one of the sides, the length of the top also extends.

From a sketch, you will need to either draw a hex manually that is constrained like the hex shown on the far right here:

If it is an existing sketch and you want to keep your downstream references, then follow the steps in the photo above to re-constrain it.

    1) original hex from the polygon feature
    2) Delete the inner circle
    3) once the inner circle is deleted, most of the constraints are also deleted this view shows all of the detached segments
    4) re constrain all of the end points
    5) make a construction line as shown, make the top line, bottom line, and the construction line parallel; make the (4) angled segments equal length.
    6) make the top and bottom lines equal length
    7) make two opposite angled line segments parallel (see the selection i used in the colored image)

If you don't want to mess with the sketch, it is much simpler to use "move face" in the model after your extrude.
But that depends on your design intent and workflow.
