How can I rotate a part relative to an axis ?

Hello

How can I rotate a part relative to one of the OnShape axes?

I am importing data from SolidWorks. Unfortunately it is being imported 'upside down', and this is confusing us!
(Note I am not asking how to rotate the view of the data, I am asking how can I rotate the model itself relative to the X/Y/Z axes of Onshape)

With thanks

J

    Use the Transform tool.

    Looks promising...

    But how can I get Transform to rotate my parts "in place" i.e. around one of the X/Y/Z axes?

    I have done the following:
    1. Click the Transform Tool
    2. Selected Rotate
    3. Axis... OnShape seems to be compelling me to choose (create??) a Mate Connector.

    But now my part(s) are rotating around the location on the model that I have selected.
    Whereas I need them to rotate around one of the (X/Y/Z) Onshape Axes!

    When importing, select "Y axis up"

    Unfortunately, it's not giving me that option.  :(

    I am using:
    Create ==> Import Files ==> [I then select a .SLDPRT file] ==>

    I then just see this:

    - Any suggestions?

    Apologies, they must have removed it - you can edit the import feature like this:

    Yes, perfect. Unticking "Y Axis Up" worked (what an annoying default option! Why would anyone want Y to be tranformed into Z... by default? Gads!)

    Many thanks

    It's because SolidWorks has Y pointing up which is ridiculous.

    Fair enough!

    (Although if OnShape was more intelligent is would change the default for SW, no... ?)

    @NeilCooke agree.
    I'm glad this and other options have been changed in Onshape instead of keeping the way they are defined in SolidWorks (such as "Apply per instance" that is disabled by default in feature patterns instead of enabled)
