Can a released part be transitioned into an assembly and retain the same part number?

For some context. We have a group of parts that is modeled as a composite part.
However we now want to break it down into an assembly drawing and part drawings. Since the the design has not changed and we are just increasing traceability, we want the part number to remain the same.

I get the following error when raising for release:

Is there a release management setting I can change to allow this to happen, or is it not possible?

Tried everything I can think of and cannot get rid of that message. Not even sure support can help, but worth creating a ticket to ask.
