Designing addons to existing STEP file for 3d-printing

Hi, noob here trying to create an attachment to a motor (or any other 3d model). I have the STEP file for my motor and I want to design a bracket that fits onto this, that I can 3d-print. I have imported my STEP file and made a sketch and extrusion on one of the faces of the motor, but I struggle to separate them so that I may export only my addition. Tried searching a bit but I am not to sure about the vocabulary for this task.

The orange highlight is what I want to export to STL and 3d-print. Any tips to do this?
