Fillet extending to unselected edges - tangent propagation off

Hello, I am trying to fillet just this edge, but it always extends regardless of the settings. I tried doing a sweep and a loft as a work around, but I had trouble getting it to look perfect with this geometry.



any fixes or workaround? This feature is very frustrating.

It seems like you hoped the fillet tool would go ahead and make the flat face at the end of the selected chain, which makes sense but the fillet tool doesn't do that. I looked at your link and see you figured a workaround with a sweep, which is a good solution. If you wanted to just use a fillet you need to trick it somehow. I did it by splitting the part, adding the fillet, and joining them back together. You could also extrude a block into the main body, fillet, then use delete face to remove it after for a similar effect. I think the sweep you did may be cleaner though.

Looks like you figured some way to do it with a sweep...
Another way to achieve something similar (and have a smoother transition) is to use the variable fillet option to taper it to nothing at the corner.

In this "simple" case the easiest way to do this would be to split the part with a plane, fillet the edge, then boolean the 2 halves back together.
