Importing to an empty folder

Hello,
When trying to import a part or assembly into an empty folder, it imports outside of the folder (even when the folder is selected, right-clicked, and import is selected). Currently I have to create a part studio or assembly in the folder, select the part studio (and make sure I double click to actually open it) then import the desired file and delete the empty part studio/assembly. Is there something I'm missing to streamline that process?
This occurs regardless of the file type (step, parasolid, SolidWorks, etc).
Thanks!
