Chrome / Linux WebGL

IhabIhab Member Posts: 5 ✭✭
Hi folks,

When I go to cad.onshape.com, I get a message saying my computer does not support WebGL.

I am using Google Chrome on Linux with the following specific versions:

Linux - Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS
Chrome - Version 108.0.5359.94 (Official Build) (64-bit)
Computer - Thinkpad P16S https://www.lenovo.com/us/en/p/laptops/thinkpad/thinkpadp/thinkpad-p16s-(16-inch-amd)/21ck0020us

I have turned on "override software rendering list" and ensured that hardware acceleration is enabled.

I have gone to http://get.webgl.org/ and verified that I see a spinning 3D cube.

My browser sends the User-agent string:

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/108.0.0.0 Safari/537.36

Kiind regards,

Ihab

    Try this in Chrome:
    1. Go to about:flags
    2. Press Ctrl-F or Cmd-F and search for webgl 2.0
    3. Find WebGL 2.0 Prototype and click enable
    4. restart Chrome

Thank you! I looked and there was no such flag in my Chrome. With the below, I still get the error in OnShape.

Another data point: This site, on my browser, says that I do have WebGL 2 support:

Try Firefox to see if it is browser specific.

I've been having issues with Chrome on Linux lately. Seems something got borked in a recent Chrome update. Firefox works fine though.

It is browser specific. The default Firefox installed with my operating system works just fine.

Consider me unblocked for working with OnShape on Linux, then! But I hope the issues with Chrome get figured out!

    Thank you!

I have the same problem. After updating chrome, onshape stopped working :(

Deleting the file helped solve my problem :) :

    "/home/$USER/.config/google-chrome/Local State"

THANK YOU.  This was the solution for me.  I have had this problem since.... Um... Maybe sometime in May 2023.  I can only guess that some saved configuration did not play nicely with an updated rendering library within Chrome... or something like that.  But it lines up perfectly with the fact that Onshape worked fine in Chromium for me... which is the same rendering engine without Google's "special sauce".
You have made me, and a bunch of folks who work with me, very happy.

    the deleting of "/home/johnd/.config/google-chrome/Local State"

doesn't solved the problem for me :(
I'm shure, the issue comes with an chrome update (firefox works fine, WebGL is reported ok by all means)
    any other ideas?
    Thank you

@serhii_sevriuhin the solution would be to use FF - those others things are not supported.
