how to add spiral around to donut shape??

hello. i trying to add spiral (helix) to donut but it cant be done just for cilinder. i dont now what is difference but it just do not work. Can anybody say how to add spiral

I think the 3D Spiral custom feature, used in Michael's solution, does exactly this.

Like Neil and Anton said, that technique should work great for this. If you want a head start, just copy that document, delete the mirror feature, then update the 3D Spiral to 2 revolutions instead of 1:
