Total and absolute beginner with extra centre point

I've only followed instruction from YT videos to get used to the program so far,. but tried to start a simple piece alone. I seem to have an extra small dot to the right of what I call the start point. If i cursor over it, it goes yellow but i can't get it to go away. I have closed and deleted the document many times but it's still there.
Any advice please?
Thank you

Thank you for that advice, unfortunately it does not work. I'm using Mac and i've even set my keyboard to 'use F keys as normal'
    Any other ideas please?
    Thank you

Shift and press refresh button on browser (which is what F5 does on Windows)

A million thanks for that, it would appear that to refresh on a Mac it's Command+R.
    Problem sorted, thank you again.
