Extract all intersections curves from an assembly

joshtargojoshtargo Member Posts: 221 EDU
I want to intersect a plane with an entire assembly and have those curves available in a sketch for further work. There are thousands of surfaces, so one at a time is not an option. Any way to do this? It's trivial in sketchup.

Why? Can you explain the use case?

You can always create an in-context part studio, copy all the bodies then split them with a plane. No need for sketch entities.

We want to sketch new entities that will be interacting with lots of different parts in an assembly, and would like the just simple 2d cross sections lines to be visible when sketching. If all the 3d is there it's too confusing.

Additionally, even if we were willing to click each surface to intersect, many of them are well hidden inside the assembly, and are unclickable.

Sounds like you may be over complicating things and perhaps trying to replicate a 2D workflow? Use in-context and you can either split the parts (as mentioned above) or sketch and use the intersect tool (in sketch) to get critical face references. I can't imagine you need every single edge in the assembly?
