Using contours for extrusions

I'm struggling to use contours for my extrusion profile. Onshape requires selecting faces only for extrusion.
You can select contours BEFORE extruding by using the janky selection tool, but this tool DOES NOT WORK for filling in an option box in the extrude feature.
