Internal Retaining Clip

LaurenceCLaurenceC Member Posts: 1
Perhaps this has been brought up before, but I have a stock 3D model from the manufacture of an internal retaining clip. The drawing is in open state. I would like to add it to an assembly in an installed state, which is compressed. Any instructions on how to compress this clip?

Thanks

Hi Laurence, there is no easy way to compress the clip since you are deforming the geometry.  Even with the direct editing tools in Onshape (or any other CAD system for that matter) it is not possible.  The only way to do this is by using a simulation package to calculate the deformed shape based on the force applied or final displacement then recreate the model based on the deformed mesh, which I assume is a little overboard for what you want to achieve.  Your only recourse is to approximate the final shape and remodel it yourself, or create a very simplified version to use in your assembly.
