My files have disappeared

les_greenles_green Member Posts: 30
I am using the free version, and accept that my files will be public, however a number of files I created and uploaded today have now vanished. Am I limited on the number of files I can have? I selected public files

There is no limit, at least not in this order. Have you tried looking it up under "Created by me" instead of "Public?"

Yes, I checked those - in fact I checked everywhere to be sure.

Is it possible that I am missing a step in the process? There's no 'save' button, but is there something that I am not doing that is making the files temporary?

Also, I note that one of the files I created, which was simply an extruded part, when you look at the icon in the file listing, it shows the assembly I was making, which is one of the files I lost. However when you click on the file to open it, it correctly shows the extrusion

    Cheers

This is really strange - I answered this discussion, and the reply has disappeared.

Also, some (but not all) of the files I created yesterday are now available again on the tabs at the bottom of the screen, even though they still do not appear in the 'created by me' list. And some of the icons that appear in the parts that do appear are completely wrong, being of completely different parts and not of the actual part itself. If you open the file, the correct part appears

There is no 'save' button, but how can I make sure that a file I am creating is set? Is there something that I should be doing to make sure I don't lose the files?

There are no files only documents and documents can contain many parts, so you may see one entry in "created by me" on the documents page but when you open the document, you will see all your parts. Impossible to lose anything unless you delete (and even then you can get it back).

Please go through some tutorials at https://learn.onshape.com/catalog?labels=["Self-Paced Courses"]&values=["All"]

Ok, I see it now, I was opening parts within the active document rather that creating new, so I assume they become dependent parts. One open in an active document can they be made to be stand alone parts in the 'created by me' list, or do I have to actually create it as a new part separately?

Think of a document like a project - place all your parts/assemblies/drawings for one project in one document. Do not treat a document like a CAD file.
