Using Assembly Named Positions to Design Linkages

Hi all thanks in advance for any help.
I'm attempting to design a 4-bar linkage system using named positions from an assembly.
Here's what I've done, which does not work:
1.) Create an assembly and insert the fixed and moving parts.
2.) Fix the fixed part in the assembly.
3.) Define the relationship between the moving and fixed parts using mates.
4.) Create 2 named positions, namely "Stored" and "Extended"
5.) Apply named position "Stored".
6.) Create a New Part Studio in Context.
7.) Create a sketch using references from the assembly, in order to discover where linkages need to be.
8.) Return to assembly.
9.) Apply named position "Extended".
10.) Return to the part studio, expecting to find the original linkage sketch in the same position, and draw a new sketch with linkages in their new positions.
Upon returning to the part studio, the sketch has moved with the moving part to the new position, and as such I can't see the original sketch of the linkages in the "Stored" named position.
Not sure how to approach this - essentially I'd want to use the named positions to align the parts in space, and then use a single part studio to design the linkage system that works across both named positions.
Cheers for any help.
