Can I derive a Part within the same Part Studio?

Javier_López_del_PueyoJavier_López_del_Pueyo Member Posts: 74 PRO
Im working withing a same PartStudio. I have several parts that share the same basic geometry. However, that geometry could be modify in the future so I want all the parts to be modify if any change is made to the initial geometry.

Derive does this, but I believe it works by linking a part from one Part Studio to other Part Studio. I didn't manage to make it work within the same Part Studio.

Am I missing something? Is there maybe an option in the transform feature that i could use instead?

Thanks!

You can use the "transform" feature and choose "copy in place" as option.

Or right click part in feature tree, choose "copy here" and it opens transform with "copy in place" already selected - ultimately the same thing, just another way to get there.

You can use the 'use' command in a sketch to reference existing geometry which will then change with that geometry so a change in one place would cascade down your multi part part studio.

Not quite. I mean, I want to create a bunch of parts that have some common geometry, and I would like them to be derived from the same master geometry. I guess I could create a MasterPartStudio and derive from there to another Part Studio but I was curious if it could be done within the same PartStudio.

@javl0p_2 ... Sounds like a case for proper top-down, parametric modeling techniques...

If you share a link, I'm sure multiple folks will chime in.

Yes, I guess this is the correct way to go. I used transform by using mate connectors and It worked fine. Thx!

There's a menu item and result I had completely missed. Nice.
