add a body to a part without creating another part

Hi, coming from solidworks i am a bit stuck with this. I have a part which already has a part number, drawing, (could possibly be released too) etc, and is in other top level assemblies. I want to edit the part in its part studio which involves adding another body. the bodies do not touch so onshape automatically creates another part. Normally that is fine because i would create a composite part, but because this part has part numbers, descriptions, revisions, when i create a composite part i loose all of this info. How do i add this body to the existing part while keeping the part and all its data? In solidworks you just draw whatever bodies you want in a part and it will carry through everywhere. cheers

The difference is that SolidWorks adds properties to the part file regardless of how many bodies exist in it, but clearly different bodies should be different parts. I'm assuming your design is now really a subassembly but you want to treat it as a part. The only way to do this is with Composite parts which you quite rightly state is a different object and therefore has different properties. You can certainly override the properties, part number and even re-release it (which you should if you've changed it), but any references to drawings or assemblies will be lost. You can always ise the Where used function to find and replace the new object.

Otherwise, the only way to do this is to connect (boolean) the two parts so it becomes one. If there really is air between the parts, then in reality they are different parts with different part numbers.
