Wrapping a sphere with a grid

I'm trying to make a domed grid. I've made a revolved half sphere then tried to extrude over it but the holes are not even because of the curves of the half sphere. Can I make the plane into a dome to extrude through it the grid holes. If I start with the grid how to transform it into a dome. Either way I've experimented too much now and I just need to know how to do it.

Depends on what you want to do next. You could also circular-pattern mate connectors for later use, and by this, only create the grid points, which you could then use to create holes or build extruded sketches on them:
