1. I created a part that has a round face I want some text on over an angle of 100 degrees.
2. I start a sketch on a plane that the curved face projects onto. In this case the front plane. I sketched some text and move/dimension it so that it is in the position you want it to be.
3. Stat a split and choose to use split face. Split the curved face with the text. This won't push the text out radially, but should give a similar effect.
4. Select the split faces and use a move face with an offset to pull them out and get some depth.
I have created a FeatureScript that makes this a bit easier. You can wrap text around surfaces, without the distortion that comes from the split face trick. You can also adjust text spacing, height, etc.
