Always lock drawing frame and drawing properties from template

Hello there.

When creating a new drawing and selecting my own custom template, is it possible to lock the frame by default? In all other CAD programs I am used to, the title block and frame are always locked by default, which makes a lot more sense in my opinion. 99% of the time, the text properties in the title block are all linked, and I have no need to change anything in the template.

The same goes for the option update my drawing properties from a template and then lock it. Why aren't the properties linked to the template by default and also locked? Again, usually a company sets the templates and properties once, and then all drawings should adhere to that standard at all times. If I really have to change something, I can always unlock and overwrite it. But that should be the edge case, not the other way around.

In general, I can't quite follow the thinking process of onshape in regards to drawing template. Why export the template to a "third party" format and than reimport it? Why not link the drawing template to a live document, where you can create versions? Compared to the rest of the software, this feels very unintuitive.

Thank you in advance!

    Hello,

You have to lock it here before exporting to DWT format:

All the elements that you want to lock must be part of the "Title block" layer (Right click → Move to → Title block)

    Hope it helps.

    Hi Daniel,

thank you for your response! Yes, the frame was locked and all elements were part of the title block. That's what confuses me, locking the frame before exporting it, should result in a locked drawing template.

    Hi,

I think it does, at least that's my case.

Drawings are based on something that Onshape bought. There are a number of non-intuitive and inconsistent things about it relative to the rest of Onshape. The fact that they don't allow collaborative editing being the worst offender, the second being the lack of decent sketching tools. That said, drawings have had a lot of effort invested in implementing all the little details that they need to be more professional.
