Drawing of the Normal to a part

I have a sheetmetal part. It floats in 3D space, and the orientation depends on multiple configuration inputs.

I need to create a Drawing (DXF export) of this part for lasercutting. So only the normal view is required for the drawing.

But how do I create that?

  • Creating a "named view" and selecting that in the drawing works, but the orientation of the part depends on configurations, and the named view is static.
  • The "auxiliary view" in drawings also works, but I'm only interested in the normal view, and deleting the originating view also deletes the auxiliary view.
  • Also, I tried to add a Sketch to the plane of the part, and then "use" the part in the drawing, but that only "uses" the outside of the part, not the holes..

Or can the named view be dynamic?

Thanks!

Klaas

    For laser cutting you'll want the flat pattern, which you have in the sheet metal tab on the right if you've created it using the sheet metal features.

    Or you'll have a flat pattern part filter when inserting a drawing view.

    If it's just a flat sheet part you've modelled without using the sheet metal features select a face then right click and export to dxf.

    Have a look at the Simultaneous sheet metal tutorial in the learning centre.

    @Oliver_Couch

    Using Sheet Metal instead of Extrude did the trick! And indeed inserting "Flat pattern of part x" when inserting in a Drawing.

    Thanks
