Teammate cannot edit main version, even with edit permission

Good afternoon, I am the owner of our team document and have given edit permission to my teammates. We are using versions this year and they are unable to edit the document. they have to create a copy and then work, but cannot reintroduce it into the main. please help.

Sounds like a mix of pricing plans? Are some on paid/edu and some on free?
