How to get a small section of my model

Hello,
I am designing a mount for 3D printing and I would like to separate out the part that intersects with the product so I can test fitment without using a ton of filament.
Is there an easy way to do this?

Extrude that shape with Intersect on, or extrude a surface and use Split.
