Tangent mate on half circle and line

Hi, i'm trying to mate the hole in the little gear to the path in the sketch, so that it follows it. To do this I'm using a tangent mate. When mating, I can only select one line segment. So I clicked the half circle. But that means that my gear can now only move about the half circle, and when I drag it to the right, it follows the imaginary other half of the half circle instead of the straight line.
I watched this video: https://youtu.be/-cGwhKbZhQI
in the video, they also use quite a complex path, but I think that the difference is that theirs is made up of a single line segment. Mine isn't a single curve, it's a combination of half circles and straight lines. How then do I use the tangent mate in my situation?
Red is the path that it takes, green is the path that it should take.
