How to place a projected curve into an assembly?

I have a bent and tapered tube (think: bicycle handlebar). This thing is based on a projected curve from two sketches, which provides the center line. Then there are some profile sketches, surface sweeps and a thicken feature. The whole thing is driven by parameters, so I can edit the bends and diameter values at will.

The handlebar is now inserted in an assembly, to show how accessories (think bicycle braking levers, shifters and so on) are positioned on it for different handlebar shapes. It would be extremely helpful, if I could use the tube center curve to position all these things, but while I can insert sketch curves into my assembly, it appears I cannot insert a projected curve. I could have sworn I could, though.

Did I miss something?

You mean include the curve with the tube within the composite part, or the curve alone? Anyway, I'll try.

If you make it into a composite part, you can.

It worked. Now having a mate connector slide along that centercurve in the assembly would be great.
