Hot To Remove Edges/Faces

While modeling the item below these edges became unavoidable. The end goal is to portray a decal on the item but it seems impossible with the edges all over the body splitting the item into several faces. How do I remove these lines and have continuity so there is only one face. This item was imported and it's in a STEP file format. I've tried a lot of things but I'm somewhat of a novice and don't want to start over.

You can learn a lot by starting over sometimes. Hard to tell what you want from the image but you can delete a series of faces and replace them with a single face
like MDesign suggested. you'd need to remodel it somewhat because the Decal will want to project to flat or cylindrical faces.
so if simplified geometry is allowed, it could work with some remodeling.
