Mating vs instances

I am coming across assemblies that are combined with instances. I am confused to the reason the person would not be mating the parts together. I am not oblivious to the fact that I am very stupid so I’m wondering what I am missing to understand why someone would make assemblies that just come apart so easily?

Please be kind to me.
I can think of a few reasons why that might be done.
extra possibility: (i have this regularly)
5. The assembly was made by Onshape upon importing a STEP/parasolid/other file. maybe a group constraint was added at the top level of the assembly, but all subassemblies below are not constrained.
I am just so disappointed to find out someone that replaced me at a position is doing such poor level work after I left. I’m disgusted to receive shared files only to find out someone is being paid more to do less quality work only because of a degree from college. I dedicated myself to doing the best work possible and thus little bitch is doing bottom level work for a company I still own a part of. What a disgrace.
I don’t give two shits how fast he is. He is setting anyone else up for failure and errors. 0 skin in the game. Probably never once skated and ollied down 7 stairs. Which by the way is basic.
