Trying to create a thick pipe type piece; can't seem to create a solid loft

DenwenDenwen Member Posts: 12

Hi all. I am brand new to onshape. I am trying to create a shape that should be like a section of a pipe (ie solid walls), and not sure how to get it. I am getting two thin walls. If i click Solid on the Loft feature, it keeps giving errors and not doing what i need.

I thought that this will be simple, I should just select the two circles on each plane and loft them, but it seems like that is not how things work.

How should i do this? Thanks.

Hello. I see the error that occurs when attempting to loft the two ring faces. Although not knowledgeable enough to know why that can't work, I'm pretty sure there is something within CAD programming logic that says 'nope, that can't work'. What you can do is take the surface that did succeed and Thicken it. - Scotty

When selecting the areas to loft you need to grab both parts of the sketch. To do this you will need to open up the first selection and then add the rest of the sketch to your selection in the sub-selection box. Not easy to explain so there's a link and a picture

Just use the thin option of the loft tool and pick either the inside or outside rings and set the thickness and side as needed.

How did you add the second section in Profiles?

On the second eample just select the 2 outer edges (highlighted in orange) and select the THIN option (at the top of the Dialogue Box) instead of Solid or Surface

On the first example you need to click on the > (arrow) before the item name to open up the sub-selection window
