Master Assembly Mate Issue

Hello, I am an experienced Onshape user and have recently discovered an issue when trying to mate subassemblies together in a master assembly. I am well knowledgeable with CAD and understand over-constraining mates, fixing, versioning, etc. so this issue is surprising.
The problem specifically appears only when I try to mate certain subassemblies together, which fixes all motion of them. For example, in a subassembly, I have a slider mate that works perfectly. When I version the document and insert it into the master assemble it still looks good when it is floating around, and the slider mate still works. As soon as I apply any mate between the slider assembly and any other subassembly, the slider no longer works, but no errors appear. The slider does not physically show movement, but it seems that actions are taking place because I can undo and redo the "invisible" sliding motion.
Right now out of the 4 subassemblies in the master assembly, 2 have this issue, but the other 2 move perfectly fine. I do not recall making any changes to the document to make these issues occur, and I have tried every fix I could come up with, and no success. I am not using any group mates in the master assembly,
Any help, or even conversation to spark ideas, would be appreciated.
Thanks a million in advance, Daniel

As a test, can you apply a Planar mate to the slider and set specific offsets? 1" 2" etc? If the mechanism can accommodate your settings, then it helps understand the issue better.
I have fixed the main issue, though am still not sure what caused it. One of the other subassemblies in the master assembly had over defining mates, and when I repaired that subassembly, the moving issue was fixed. This doesn't make sense because I wasn't mating any other assembly to the broken subassembly, and two of the documents were still working at the time. That document has been broken for a long time, and the slider mate issue only occurred recently. The slider mate didn't work no matter what is was mated to.
Whatever the problem, thanks for the help.
