Hi,
I have a short term contract for which I want to use Onshape. On completion I will want to suspend my professional membership and transfer ownership of the data to my client.
Can they keep the data in Onshape native format without needing their own subscription active?
Thanks in advance.

Somebody from OS will have to comment authoritatively, but my understanding is that they never delete anything from the system. So even if you stop paying for Onshape, the worst thing that could happen is that the data is deemed "inactive". You could always re-access the data by paying for a month of service.
My assumption would be that the same would be true for your client. Assuming the client needs fewer than the minimum number of projects and the data is less than the maximum free size (100MB at the moment), they should be able to keep it indefinitely for free. If they want more, they'll have to pay.
The important thing is that you should never lose data. It will always be there for you, you just won't be able to keep more than a handful of projects "active" under a free subscription.5 -
brucebartlett Member, OS Professional, Mentor, User Group Leader Posts: 2,141 PROI've have also been wondered about changing the ownership of documents over 100MB to a client on a free account with only100MB private, this would max their account out meaning no more private document use, all private docs become read only but in theory they should be there indefinitely and if they require future edits they would have to subscribe for a month to regain access or make public and move ownership back to a paid account.
Just tried it on my test account and it looks like this. See the 3rd on the list @ 178MB.
I was then able to make it public and change ownership back, I was thinking for a while that the only way to get the doc back was to pay which you would if it was sensitive info.
For those small contract job's it would be great to be able to change ownership so as to relief yourself of the responsible of someones else's documents, I think this would work fine if the other party was on a free account and didn't require any private modelling access.

We have absolutely built Onshape for independent contractors and consultants.
First a quick plug for how awesome the Onshape free plan is;
Unlimited free public documents!
And now back to you - In isolation, you are free to switch between the free and professional plans at any time.
Switching to 'free' with private documents in excess of the free plan limits, simply places your data in view-only mode (for you!).
Any documents shared with someone else (a customer) retain the share permissions.
Private document ownership can of course be transferred to your clients and, once you are unshared, that additional 'breathing room' for private documents is returned to your account.
The Free plan is primarily intended for amateurs and hobbyists (hence the very generous free public documents and small grant of free private documents). That said, there is nothing in our terms of service that restrict your ability to perform commercial work with a free account. Infact - we encourage it! What a great way to build a clientele base to justify your continuous professional subscription.
Again thank you for your support of Onshape.Philip Thomas - Onshape5
