assembly model disappeared; mate connections visible

i have an assembly that has suddenly disappeared or became invisible.  mate connections are visible, so when zooming or panning they move.
tried various things including hiding/unhiding (all parts and individual parts), changing view style (shade, translucent), copying and pasting (new copy invisible also), different browser- basically anything we can think of.  the parts themselves are all visible in their individual tabs.
this is also shared between two users and neither of us can see it so does not seem to be local machine dependent.

suggestions appreciated!

Just had this happen to me. I have absolutely no clue why. A quick and dirty fix is to go back in versions until it reappears. That worked for me, but maybe you had a different root problem that can't be solved in with this method.

Most of the time, just reloading the doc fixes it (maybe with Shift F5)
