Loft guides creation?

I'm having trouble understanding the order in which to create features in order to get a good, controllable loft. How do you create loft guides between two points? I've tried creating the loft, then creating a plane from the angled loft, and using that to sketch guides. But I can't use the guides I then create because I can't updated the loft without messing up the plane, and therefor breaking the sketch! Do I need to manually create a plane between my two sketches in order to create loft guides before creating a loft? Is there a better way to do this?

Yes a plane for the guides and then "pierce" constraints to connect the guides to the loft profile sketches is probably the way to go.
@cody_armstrong has done some really helpful (free) webinars to get to grips with such things. Attending live so you can ask questions is best but recordings are also available.
Here is a link to a loft video.

I think you'll find the section where he uses a 3-point plane to set up the guides for the squeegee useful.
