I have used STL workbench to repair an STL file, but how do I get that into a part studio?

I would really like this process to be more robust and even using STL Workbench proved to be ineffectual. Is there an issue with number of faces or file size that may stop the import happening correctly. (I know the 3DS format is limited to 60000 faces).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
All I have gotten so far is excuses. STL is complicated...ummm OK. STL is new ... I should expect it to be broken...um OK.
So this quarters attempt to use OnShape after a new functionality announcement has failed. I guess I'll try again next quarter.
