Notes on performance

I run 64 bit Ubuntu V16.04 on a fairly heavy duty workstation with a somewhat late model 4GB Nvidia Quadro.  I typically use FireFox as a Browser and have a 25Mbs Internet connection through Comcast. Recently, I began to notice a real slowdown with OnShape and I went looking for a cause.  I discovered two things dragging the performance down.  One was AdBlock Pro which is unnecessary with OnShape so it got disabled when on OS sites.  The other was the video driver.

I long ago learned to avoid open source video drivers and look for the latest driver from the video card maker.  However, somehow, my driver had been switched to the open source one included with Ubuntu - probably by a routine system update.  Switching back to the proprietary driver made a huge difference - probably because of poor WebGL support by the open source driver.

Hopefully, this will help someone.

Firefox on Unbuntu 22 had a similar issue. I turned off "enhanced protection" for the onshape site (see shield to the left of the address bar). I also changed from "strict" to "standard" protection in the settings.
