How can I use an SVG drawing in a part studio or assembly?

arasaras Member Posts: 14 ✭✭
I have a 2D shape in SVG format and I uploaded the SVG file into my OnShape docment. It is now in a new tab and I can view it, but I can not figure out how to use that drawing in a part studio or assembly, to actually work on it. What am I missing?

I'm sure DXF import is on their list. Are you using SVG directly or do you have a converter you normally use?

@Aras We plan to support DXF in for sketch creation. I have added you to the list.

That's ok. What formats can I use to import existing drawing? I tried DXF and that did not work either.

    Can't. Yet....

If you have a different solid modeler. SVG->DXF->Extrude the profile into a solid->STEP->Onshape

The list of formats is here: https://cad.onshape.com/help/#export.htm

How can I request this feature? I do plasma cutting and all our clients use DXF and sometimes SVG. It would be a hugely important feature to be able to import those right into onshape.

Is there an existing ticket for this somewhere?

I use Inkscape most often and it can save as DXF as well as SVG.
