How to go back and forth between solid and surface model?

As an example, say I model a solid cube. In SolidWorks, I would simply pick a face, hit delete face, and now I have an open box made of zero-thickness surfaces.
To go the other way, I could add a planar surface defined by the open side of the box, and then knit the two surface bodies together and tick the option to create a solid, and now I have my solid cube again.
Is there no way to do this in OS presently?

We currently do not have this functionality, but for now you could use the 'replace face' functionality if you want to replace some side of a box with some different surface topology. Surfacing like this is on our radar, but it will help if you add or vote on an existing improvement request to the right --->Jake Rosenfeld - Modeling Team6
