ECAD - IDF-to-3D, 3D PCB Integration Release

mbattistellombattistello Member, Developers Posts: 51 ✭✭
I am pleased to announce the initial release of the IDF-to-3D Integration for Onshape. The application uses Intermediate Data Format (IDF) files that can be generate from most electrical design packages (ex. EAGLE, KiCad, Altium, etc) to automate the generation of 3D models of your PCBs. IDF-to-3D includes a comprehensive component library to help build out your PCB board and also allows you to upload/build your own components and map them to your board.

Please check it out in the App Store and leave feedback in the App Store or in this discussion.

I know this is a 4 year old thread... Is this app still available? I don't see it in the app store. I'm trying to import IDF PCBA files into onshape and not having any luck. Thanks.

@nick_papageorge073 unfortunately the application is no longer on the app store. There wasn't enough interest and usage to justify the costs to maintain it.

The onshape app is based on the application hosted here - https://www.simplifiedsolutionsinc.com/index.php/5db31b42aa8a8148110e3b04781e354d/common/3D-PCB-offerings;IDF-TO-3D. Its still available and you could try this to get a step file to load to onshape.

Ive seen some other attempts to build importers using FeatureScript but nothing thats fully functional. The IDF format is slightly too complex to process with FS but then its a big leap to get a full app that can import the file, build the board, and then place the components. And then on top of that the library available for all the IDF tools is a big gap that is usually needed to get an accurate board.

Thanks, I used this site and it worked for one pcb and half worked for another. Good enough to get a housing designed though.

Half worked? Is it possible to share this so we can debug?
