why do gear teeth intersect each other?

iv'e done the gear relation perfect for these 2 gears but when turned the teeth go through each other

    mechanical constraint commands have one input field for both driving and driven mate. one of the tips here is to insure that you select driving and driven mate in the correct order so that mate ratio would link mate coordinates in the correct order.
    not very obvious and sometimes I had to sort out both combinations to make it work

    you can just click edit on the gear and tell it to reverse order to make them go opposite directions
