Version control

I could be overthinking this but I am having an issue with versions.

Let's say I have a Parts Studio and I have three parts in it, Box, PCA, and Cover. Now I can save a version of the Part Studio as Prototype1 and this saves the three parts as is. At this point do the individual parts have a revision? Now what if I decide the Box is done being changed and now it can go to RevA but the other two parts are still at Prototype1, or maybe I want to change the PCA to Prototype2 as well.

I guess I am thinking like a traditional PDM system where one part is... well one part. Can someone explain how this is managed in OS without putting each part into its own Part Studio?

Thanks,
Christopher

christopher_quijano It's my understanding that this is something that they are still working on. Also at this time you can't copy and paste a part out of the studio and into another studio in which they are also working on. A workaround until we get delightfully surprised by Onshapes wonderful solution is to copy the entire part studio and delete all the unwanted parts and feature tree items. Bit of a pain for now. HTH

Once you save a version, you can go to the properties of the version which gives you some meta-data for the tabs and parts.  The individual parts only have revisions if you assign them one.  If you continue working on them and save another version, you can then assign those a revision if you want to.  Likewise, you can do this with multiple branches.  Ultimately we want you to be able to decide your own design and release process by giving enough flexibility and usability.

We are still building up the metadata that can be applied.  If there is something that you need, please let us know.
