Sheet metal - can't make last aligned flange

SledDriverSledDriver Member Posts: 117 ✭✭✭
Can anyone tell me how to make the last flange on this angular box?

It seems I can't make a flange on the edge I used as the flange bend direction reference?

Hmm - strange. It works if you create a plane parallel to your Move Face before the Sheet Metal feature and use that as a reference. Please open a support ticket for this so we can get it fixed. Thanks.

    Hello!

We'll have to take a good re-think about behavior for this one, and try to improve the feature for cases like this.  Because you're trying to Flange off the same edge as you're using for alignment, the feature breaks because any flange is parallel to the edge its coming off of.

For now here is a workaround:
Create a plane off of the edge you want to align:

Flange using that plane as the alignment:

Because the plane is more well-defined than the edge, there is only one solution for what is "parallel" for that last flange.  Sorry for making you jump through hoops.  Hope this helps!

@Jake_Rosenfeld maybe you need somehow to detect if one of the selected edges for flange is parallel to the flanging direction and then print a warning, or try to evaluate a normal from another selected edges, if all them give the same normal direction

The feature currently highlights the offending edge and says as much in the feature status (hover over the red 'Flange 1' for this message).

    Thanks for the normals idea!
