OnShape 3D limitation - Working with big parts

Hello, since 2 months we highlighted a 3D geometrical issue with Onshape.

We are working on big parts:

We created a 10000mm radius solid 3mm thick skin panel part.
We tryed to create an extruded stifner part  that would be made from the edge of the10000mm radius skin part. To create the extrusion we are trying to fix a point or a line of the extrusion sketch to the 10000mm radius edge but it does't work. The result is an interference between the 2 parts.

I tought that it was maybe a visual issue so I created the extrusion sketch without fixing any points or line to the 10000mm radius edge. By doing so, the onshape visual is good but when you open the 3D geometry with another cad system (step export) you notice that the geometry is clashing. Doing the same result as if I would have fix the extrusion edge.

I did the experience the opposite way. Creating the 3D geometry with another cad system and export it into onshape: same issue. The geometry is clashing in Onhsape.

It seems that Onshape rendering cannot deal with that 3D geometry.

Try it !

Imagine the issue if I am trying to generate the good visual geometry with Onhsape and exporting it  to send it to a supplier to manufacture my part. There is a clash !!!

Please post a public link. Onshape uses Parasolid so it should be no different than any other Parasolid based system.

    Hi Nicolas,
We found this to be a bug with our STEP translator. We are working on a fix for this. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Hello Gaby, the step translator as nothing to do with the issue.

If you try to do the same geometry in Onshape you will notice that it is impossible to snap a line or a point on the 10000mm edge  radius.

The problem that I have now is that when I am exporting the geometry that look good in Onshape (by not snapping a point or a line on the 10000mm edge radius) It is clashing (the real issue) with the other parts.

    Two facts:
Onshape snapped point on the 10000mm edge radius = onshape representation error
Onshape close point (but no snap) to the 10000mm edge radius = onshape good representation (but geometrical error and clash)

Please try to represent the same geometry with onshape and you will notice the issue.

Please post a link. I tried what I thought you explained and it worked fine for me.
