Creating a sketch/extrusion in a part from a view in an assembly

I know, strange title, and I'm not sure this can be done but the only way I can determine a specific shape for a sketch is from a view in an assembly as the parts overlap in a way that forms that shape. I would like to create a sketch in a part studio that duplicates the shape formed in the assembly but haven't found a way to accomplish that.
