Converting bridging curve in a sketch

In Sketch 6, why can't I convert edge on Curve 1? I can normally convert a bridging curve just fine, but this one is being stubborn.

    Because the curve at the bottom of the "slide" is pointing towards the sketch plane and would therefore be self-intersecting.

    Hmm. I thought it might be something like that, but there should be a 1-to-1 mapping... unless the bridging curve is imperceptibly dipping down then up. Thanks, Neil.
