out of memory?

aeppikxaeppikx Member Posts: 6

to be honest i have no idea what causes this problem , but i get every 2-3 minutes :out of memory since a few weeks.

my sysspecs: ryzen 7 5800x3d , 32gb ram 3600mhz, rx6800xt 16gb , win 11 pro . chrome is cleared(cache etc) ,all drivers up to date ,

this happens even when onshape is the only open tab , so dont answer like in other post, chrome use lots of gb ram. yea it does with lots open tab but not 32 gigs.

and btw onshape is the only site this happens , never have this issue on other sites.

Where does this message appear? Inside Onshape or Windows? Is a document open at the time of the error? Thanks.

This happens for me too. It's a Chrome error that only happens when using Onshape.

    Aw, Snap!

Something went wrong displaying this webpage.

    Error code: Out of Memory

It doesn't matter what document I'm editing. I've had it happen in a document that contains only a single sketch. I've used Chrome DevTools to monitor the heap size and nothing looked unusual there. I was seeing heap allocations in the 120 - 140MB range at the time of the crash.

It doesn't seem to be related to any specific action. I've had it happen while hovering over elements, selecting, editing, etc.

It doesn't seem to happen if the window is just open but not being interacted with. It's frequent. It can happen within a few seconds of reloading, but no more than a few minutes. It's a recent change. This never used to happen at all before.

    I'm also running a Ryzen 7 5800X3D with 32GB. I have 3060 Ti. Chrome 127.0.6533.120.

I should probably give it a try from a guest session to rule out any weird interactions with extensions.

Followup: I've tested a bit from a guest session and I haven't experienced any crashes, so it's a fair guess that it's an interaction between OnShape and one of my Chrome Extensions. There's no way for me to guess whether it started with an update to an extension or an update to OnShape.

I've removed extensions I don't need anymore and disabled ones I don't need all the time. If I can isolate a specific extension I'll update, but at least this provides a potential workaround for anyone else encountering this.

so this happens always in a open dokument , whenn i do something like for exsample want to extrude. or anything else

and i tested also with all chrome extensions disablet, althought i have not much extension installed.

so i guess i figured it out. i might has something to do with this beta darkmode or dark mode extension. always happened when i had it on , didnt happen when it was off so far ..

btw i notices some weird bugs in darkmode or in normal mode with darkreader extension aktivated the hole ui , parts almost everything bugs out & it is gray in gray in gray or after a refresh blue in blue in gray , so that you cant see anything. and this happens btw almost always after a few clicks….: solution dark(mode or extens.) off - refresh mode back on everything looks right again few clicks later same procedure again.

Shouldn't need any extensions anymore so make sure they are disabled/removed. I would be surprised if it was our dark mode since it is just CSS.

yea for now i use onshape in eyehurting white and keep my darkreader and darkmode off. 😁

I'm following up to say that I was also using Dark Reader with OnShape, and I haven't experienced any more crashes since I disabled it. I removed a bunch of other less-critical extensions altogether at the same time so I wasn't initially sure, but aeppikx's diagnosis seems to match my experience.

I hadn't noticed that OnShape added Dark Mode. I'm very happy to learn about this and not need Dark Reader anymore.
