Corner Break Stability?

S1monS1mon Member Posts: 3,369 PRO

Is it just me, or are corner breaks in sheet metal very very brittle? I have one rectangular part where I can't add a corner break on two of four corners for no good reason. Then on another part, if I change the size of a rectangular window, I can't get it to keep the four corner references.

I find them unstable as well. Sometimes I end up using a fillet just for more stability.

    They have always been dodgy,

I use the regular fillet until it complains about a selection. Then I switch to corner break to do the rest.

To be honest, I'm not sure why they are separate features anyway. Why not expand the selection capability of the original feature.

Is there a good reason to use a corner break if a regular fillet works?

Remember to submit a ticket when you run into weird/unstable stuff!
They won't fix issues if they know about them! I just submitted a ticket about a corner break feature adding a sliver of material next a bend relief (there was some weird geometry but still shouldn't have been doing this).

Corner break does make it quicker to apply as you can box select stuff and it only grabs "2D" corners. You can switch between a fillet and chamfer easily (if your sheet metal vendor come back and say they prefer one over the other for example).

There are also a bunch of "not-applicable" stuff in the regular fillet feature so I could see that being a reason to split it out… Makes the interface simpler (not to mention the code behind it). I guess it could have been a "tab" at the top of the fillet feature (although the "chamfer" option would be a bit out of place there and you would lose the ability to switch from one to the other if that moved to the "regular" chamfer command…)

The box select thing is huge. I had missed/forgotten that.

That said, more universal Selection Fillet style parametric selection tools would be even better…

Sorry that you get a bad experience with corner break. Please file tickets or share examples here.
